Healthy Homes Upgrade Programme

We want you and your whanau to be comfortable, safe and healthy in your home.

So, we run a Healthy Homes Upgrade Programme. Once your home is upgraded as part of the programme , it will be easier to keep warm and dry.

Stage 1. What’s needed

Stage 1. What’s needed

We will visit your home to work out what needs to be upgraded. The visit will usually take around two hours.

Stage 2. Planning the upgrade

Stage 2. Planning the upgrade

We will contact you to find the best time to do the upgrade.

Stage 3. Doing the upgrade

Stage 3. Doing the upgrade

We will visit your home to install the new items. The work will usually happen over one or two days. More visits might be needed if there’s lots of work to do.

Stage 4. Using the new items

Stage 4. Using the new items

We will show you how to use the new items in your home, like heat pumps or fans.

We will install a heater that can heat your main living room to at least 18 degrees. In most cases this will be a heat pump, which costs around half as much to run as other heaters.

We will put fans in your kitchen and bathroom to remove damp air from cooking, bathing or showering. This will make your home drier, easier to keep warm, and less likely to have mould. We will also check doors and windows to make sure they are big enough to let fresh air in.

We will check the insulation in your ceiling and under your floor. If the insulation has become too thin or has holes, we will upgrade or replace it. Insulation helps keep the temperature healthy and comfortable in your home.

Stopping Draughts

We will make sure there are no leaks or gaps in floors and walls, around doors and windows, or in a fireplace or chimney. We want to keep the warm air in your home and the cold winter air out.

Drainage and moisture outside

We will make sure your roof, gutters, and downpipes catch rainwater and move it away from your home. Where we can, we will install a plastic sheet underneath your home to stop dampness from the soil rising up into your floor.

After the upgrade

In some cases we might not be able to do all of the things described above. But we will do as much as we can, and talk with you about what we have done. We will also show you how to get the best out of anything new we install in your home, like heat pumps and fans.
